The most famous of the Special Forces involved in the Vietnam War were the US Green Berets their original mission being to wage guerilla warfare and organize resistance behind enemy lines. Most of the Green Berets that served in Vietnam belonged to the 5th Special Forces Group who had their headquarters in Nha Trang.
I was drafted in to the Army in June of 1967. I did basic at Fort Leonard Wood and AIT at Fort Polk. I had about three weeks leave and arrived in Vietnam on Thanksgiving day of 1967. I spent 14 months in Vietnam serving with the 9th Infantry Division. I served eight months at Bear and then six months at Dong Tam in the Delta.
I was stationed with Co A 5th SFGA Bien Hoa VN 7/69 2/70 B32 Tay Ninh 2/70 6/70 not as a Green Beret. Met many of them..The Quiet Ones Special Forces received the highest number of MOH in the Vietnam War. I have nothing but respect for them and have seen there are some in this county I live in going on quietly about their lives.

The Green Beret Affair Det. B41 in Moc Hoa provided air and logistical support. The A414 camp converted to a Vietnamese Army Ranger camp on 31 Aug. 1970 with a company of 315 soldiers. It could be said that it took that many soldiers to replace 12 Green Berets but that would be an inside joke only appreciated by Special Forces.
